| Pend Oreille County Small-Town Consortium Gets Big Results |
Five cities and towns in Pend Oreille County, Washington shared resources and hired Studio Cascade to do what couldn't be afforded individually: Prepare critical areas ordinances unique to each community, draft concurrency ordinances to comply with State law, and help each community establish a workable planning administration program for the management and processing of land use permits. More was merrier - the result provided a new set of ordinances and a "Local Government Planning Handbook" that's become a model for small towns across Washington State. Participant communities included Metaline, Metaline Falls, Cusick, Ione, and Newport, Washington. |

The Pend Oreille River is unusual in the United States, as it flows north, not south. Coursing through rich wetlands, box canyons, tribal lands and dams, it joins the Columbia in Canada. |
Historic Tiger Store along scenic State Highway 31 in northwest Washington State - now a museum. The building was renovated with county funds, sought by Studio Cascade.
